Argon laser iridoplasty to improve visual function following multifocal intraocular lens implantation.

چکیده
PURPOSE To describe the use of argon laser iridoplasty following implantation of a multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) to improve visual function. METHODS Argon laser spots of 500-mW power, 500-μm spot diameter, and 500-ms duration were placed in the midperipheral iris in the area in which the iris was encroaching on the IOL. RESULTS Argon laser iridoplasty provided statistically significant improvement in visual function including corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) and subjective quality of vision in 14 eyes from 11 patients. Mean CDVA improved from 0.24 (20/35 Snellen) to 0.10 (20/25 Snellen) logMAR (P<.0001), and mean subjective quality of vision improved from 2.9 to 7.5 (P<.0001). CONCLUSIONS Argon laser iridoplasty should be considered in correcting visual problems associated with decentered multifocal IOLs.

Non-organic Visual Loss in Patients with Multifocal Intraocular Lenses
PURPOSE To report non-organic visual loss (NOVL) following cataract surgery with multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. METHODS After reviewing consecutive cases of NOVL diagnosed by a single neuro-ophthalmologist over a one year period, two patients reported herein attributed their visual symptoms to cataract surgery and multifocal IOL implantation. RESULTS In both patients variab...
متن کاملCurrent approaches to the management of acute primary angle closure.
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Recent advances in the management of acute primary angle closure include argon laser peripheral iridoplasty, immediate anterior chamber paracentesis, and cataract or lens extraction by phacoemulsification. This review summarizes current thoughts on the role of these treatment modalities. RECENT FINDINGS Argon laser peripheral iridoplasty has been shown to be superior to trea...

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to assess visual and refractive outcomes of laser vision correction (LVC) to correct residual refraction after multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. PATIENTS AND METHODS In this retrospective study, 782 eyes that underwent LVC to correct unintended ametropia after multifocal IOL implantation were evaluated. Of all multifocal lenses implanted during ...
متن کاملRecurrent acute angle-closure attack due to plateau iris syndrome after cataract extraction with or without argon laser peripheral iridoplasty: a case report
BACKGROUND We describe two cases of recurrent acute angle-closure attack in patients with plateau iris syndrome after cataract extraction. Argon laser peripheral iridoplasty and cataract extraction have been used to reduce the occurrence of acute angle-closure attack in plateau iris syndrome although the risk cannot be completely eliminated. There is no consensus on the long term management of ...
متن کاملSecondary multifocal intraocular lens implantation: A novel management strategy for white cataracts
Objectives This study was designed to analyse the outcomes of secondary multifocal intraocular lens implantation in eyes with white cataracts. Methods White cataract patients undergoing secondary multifocal intraocular lens implantation between June 2014 and January 2015 were evaluated prospectively. As opposed to a conventional primary intraocular lens implantation for an optimal patient, th...
